Kilburn Pumpkin Contest

There were 8 actual entries for the inaugural 2020 competition of the ‘Plumpest Pumpkin Produced in Kilburn’

They came in all colours and sizes and clearly there are some green fingers around the village.

Last week the Village Pumpkin Master of Ceremonies, organiser and judge (Cllr. John Harron) went to a property in the village and validated the weight of the winning pumpkin with what had been declared by the grower. He also checked for any ‘sleight of hand’ tactics which would lead to disqualification.

Therefore in best ‘Strictly Come Dancing Style) the results, in no particular order are:

Name Pumpkin Weight

Claire Strafford 6.09 13.426

Lib & Pete Pennock 2.526 5.571

John & Julie Harron 5.942 13.1

Mike & Shirley Appleby 6.407 14.125

Carol Thompson 1.134 2.5

Margaret Gomersall 2.4 5.29

Jacky Owens 2.716 5.98

Avril & Bryan Woods 6.2 13.67

Congratulations therefore go to Mike & Shirley Appleby who, whilst savouring the delights of a ‘bottle of red’ in front of the fire, can claim the bragging rights for this year (even if the public weigh-bridge wasn’t needed!).

Big thanks to John for organising this village event!
